The purpose of smart displays is to show you information and content without you having to directly interact with your device. These come heavily integrated with voice assistants and an easy-to-read interface. While this is true for the Echo Show devices, Amazon decided to make using them even more hands-free. Amazon officially unveiled gesture controls for its Echo Show devices, according to The Verge.

The beauty of smart displays is being able to simply prop them up on your kitchen counter and stream movies while you’re cooking. Also, you can’t forget about looking up recipes as well. Devices like Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hubs are great options for this. Also, you never know if you will find some good Christmas discounts for these devices, so you’ll want to keep an eye out.

The Echo Show devices now support gesture control

The Amazon Echo Show devices create a pretty hands-free experience, but there still has to be some direct interaction with the device at times. For example, if your timer goes off. Sure, it’s all fine and dandy if your hands are clean and you’re next to the device, but, what if you are knee-deep in cooking? You wouldn’t want to touch the screen with food all over your hands.

This is why gesture controls come in handy. Amazon just added gesture controls to the Echo Show 8 and Echo Show 10 devices, and they allow you to simply wave your hand in front of the camera to stop timers. This makes the process so much easier, especially if you can’t quite touch the device.

For the time being, that’s the only gesture that’s available. We’re not sure if Amazon plans on adding more gestures in the future, but it’ll be a safe bet to think so.

Now, Amazon isn’t exactly charting new ground with this feature, as gesture controls were available for Google Nest Hub devices for a few years. In any case, it’s still nice to see these features reach The Echo Show devices.

Enabling the gesture controls is pretty simple. Just access your Settings and go to the Device Options section. There, you should see a button labeled Gestures. From there, you can enable the function.
