EA Play will be getting price increases soon in a change that will sweep across all available tiers and options. This includes both monthly and annual costs. So no matter which version of the service you have, it’s getting more expensive.
EA Play, much like Ubisoft+, is a way for players to access a collection of EA’s games for a recurring monthly cost. The collections include both old games and newer releases, and the Pro plan even includes day-one access to the latest games. While many gamers often scoff at the idea of these subscription services, they’re not a bad value if you thoroughly enjoy a wide selection of games that come from the publisher. That being said, the subscription pill can be a little harder to swallow when prices go up.
However, EA’s new pricing plans are in line with what’s offered by other services. So it shouldn’t be too much of a shock that the increase is happening. If anything, it’s surprising that EA didn’t implement these changes sooner.
EA Play will receive price increases starting May 10
If you’re already subscribed and wondering when you’ll have to pay more, you have around one final month, assuming your subscription doesn’t reset again before the new price date. According to Gameindustry.biz, the price increase will begin on May 10. As noted the prices are going up for both the monthly and annual subscriptions. If you’re on the monthly plan for the regular EA Play subscription, the new monthly price will be $6, up from $5. The EA Play Pro plan is going up to $17 a month from $15. Annual plans will go up to $40 and $120 respectively.
If you compare these to the monthly PlayStation Plus cost, they’re a tad cheaper. Although you also admittedly get less for the subscription. Price-wise though, they are in line with competing service costs. Ubisoft+, which is much closer to what you get from EA Play, is $17.99 a month.
While it is a letdown to see the price go up, you can cut EA Play altogether if you also have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and you were subscribed to the EA Play standard plan. Since Xbox Game Pass Ultimate includes it.
New members pay the new price immediately
One thing you’ll want to be aware of is that the May 10 price increase is for existing members. If you’re not already subscribed to EA Play in either tier, the new pricing plans are already live. Also worth noting is that EA says the new pricing is going to impact every country it does business in. So no matter where you live, the subscription will cost more.
