Just a couple of days after the official launch, we saw the Samsung Galaxy S22 being put through several durability tests on YouTube channel PBKreviews. Now, as the new Galaxy flagships start to reach consumers’ hands, we can see the Galaxy S22 Ultra suffering the same amount of torture courtesy of the same source.

The video starts with submerging the Galaxy S22 Ultra under the water for about a minute. The screen is on and it doesn’t show any warning or error message even after remaining submerged for a prolonged period. Perhaps the device doesn’t have any problems at all. It works perfectly after pulling out of the water. We know the new Galaxy flagship boasts an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. So it should comfortably handle exposure to minor rain or a few dips into the pool.

We now move on to the scratch test. Interestingly, the Galaxy S22 Ultra fares worse in this department than the vanilla Galaxy S22. The latter didn’t show any scratches until Level 8 on Mohs level of hardness. However, the Ultra model starts scratching at Level 6, with deeper grooves on Level 8. PBKreviews even re-tested the Galaxy S22 to make sure they were doing it right and the device held its own. We could see faint scratches at Level 7 but not as deep as on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Things remain unchanged when it comes to the back though. However, that’s still surprising since Samsung uses Gorilla Glass Victus on both models, both at the front as well as the back.

Moving on, we can see the Galaxy S22 Ultra being grilled further with sharp knives and picks which we expect in such durability videos. But how about the bend test? Let’s find out.

Galaxy S22 Ultra passes all durability tests with flying colors

Coming to the bend test, the Galaxy S22 Ultra passes it with flying colors as well. The device exhibits a negligible flex both from the front and the back. So it should be safe to say the phone is structurally solid and will not break that easy unless you apply a lot of force. It even survives a car running over it. The screen suffers a few scratches but nothing serious.

All in all, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will survive a regular environment on the Earth without any problem. So if you were waiting to know that before placing your order, there you are. You can watch the full durability test below.
