Dubai International (DXB) is set to break annual traffic records after a strong performance in the first nine months of 2024. By the end of September, DXB welcomed 68.6 million guests, a 6.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Momentum from the first half of the year continued into Q3, with 23.7 million guests recorded. DXB handled over 111,300 flights during Q3, bringing total flight movements to 327,700 for the year so far — a 6.4% rise year-on-year.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, highlighted the airport’s growth and resilience. He praised the team’s dedication and focus on service excellence, which has maintained DXB’s status as a global leader for over a decade. Investments in customer service and technology continue to drive its success.
Griffiths noted a significant shift toward direct traffic, reflecting Dubai’s appeal as a place to live, work, and do business. The city’s booming real estate market and status as a global hub for talent further support this trend.
India remained the top destination market, with 8.9 million passengers, followed by Saudi Arabia (5.6 million) and the UK (4.6 million). Other top markets included Pakistan (3.4 million), the USA (2.6 million), and Germany (2 million).
London led as the top city destination with 2.9 million guests, followed by Riyadh (2.3 million), Mumbai (1.8 million), Jeddah (1.7 million), and New Delhi (1.6 million).
DXB processed 60.1 million bags with a 99.3% accuracy rate, ensuring seamless baggage handling. Most arriving passengers received their luggage within 45 minutes.
In the final quarter, DXB expects 23.2 million guests, driven by expats traveling for the holidays and visitors drawn to Dubai’s vibrant winter calendar. Events like the DP World Tour Championship, Emirates Dubai 7s, and New Year’s Eve celebrations continue to attract global visitors.
Western Europe and the CIS region are expected to contribute significant growth in Q4, with increased seating capacity. New airlines like ITA, Condor, and Druk Air also expand DXB’s connectivity.
DXB retained its title as the world’s busiest international airport for the tenth consecutive year, reflecting its unmatched global status.
