The first official trailer for Olivia Wilde’s next film, Don’t Worry Darling has dropped, and it promises a mind-bending, erotic thriller set in the ‘50s. Don’t Worry Darling stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles as a couple living in an experimental utopian city, but not everything is as perfect as it appears. The film is set to debut this fall and marks the first pairing between Pugh and Styles, whose incredible chemistry is on full display in the footage shown. You can check out the trailer below.

The trailer starts off well, with Pugh and Styles enjoying their idyllic lives before Pugh, who plays Alice, begins questioning the motives of her husband’s company, Victory Project. All the men working in Victory go off to work every day, leaving their wives at home. In a villainous turn, Chris Pine plays the enigmatic CEO of the company whose only demands are good food, a tidy house, and, most importantly, discretion from the wives. But what exactly does the Victory Project do? From the looks of it, probably something sinister.

Don’t Worry Darling is directed by Olivia Wilde from a screenplay by Katie Silberman (Booksmart) based on a story by Carey and Shane Van Dyke. Wilde will also play a role in the film. Alongside Pugh and Styles, Don’t Worry Darling also stars Gemma Chan (Eternals), Kiki Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), Nick Kroll (How It Ends), Sydney Chandler (Pistol), Asif Ali (WandaVision), Douglas Smith (Big Little Lies), and Timothy Simons (Veep).

A detailed plot synopsis accompanied the trailer, which you can read below.

“Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Styles) are lucky to be living in the idealized community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. The 1950’s societal optimism espoused by their CEO, Frank (Pine)—equal parts corporate visionary and motivational life coach—anchors every aspect of daily life in the tight-knit desert utopia.

While the husbands spend every day inside the Victory Project Headquarters, working on the “development of progressive materials,” their wives—including Frank’s elegant partner, Shelley (Chan)—get to spend their time enjoying the beauty, luxury and debauchery of their community. Life is perfect, with every resident’s needs met by the company. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause.

But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory, and why. Just how much is Alice willing to lose to expose what’s really going on in this paradise?”

Don’t Worry Darling Described as Inception Meets The Matrix

The first footage from Don’t Worry Darling stunned audiences at CinemaCon recently. A steamy, surreal psychological thriller, Don’t Worry Darling is promising to be a unique and original film, the likes of which have become a rarity in Hollywood nowadays.

Inception, The Matrix, Truman Show. It’s my love letter to the movies that pushed boundaries of ambition. It’s ambitious, but I think we made something pretty special,” director Olivia Wilde said before the goof-up where she was served with custody papers while on stage. And judging by the trailer, Don’t Worry Darling definitely looks like it will be a mind-boggling experience for the viewers.

Don’t Worry Darling will premiere on September 23, 2022.
