Marvel Studios has offered us one final glimpse at the comic book chaos that will unfold in the imminent sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Released via the official Doctor Strange Twitter account, the trailer provides one last tease before the movie hits theaters tomorrow, and sees Doctor Stephen Strange attempt to tackle the madness of the MCU multiverse.

While this latest and last trailer does not provide too much in the way of new footage, that is probably for the best, especially considering the major leaks that have reportedly taken place over the last few days. Hell, if Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had his way, the trailer would not have shown off as much as they already have.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sees Benedict Cumberbatch reprise the role of Doctor Stephen Strange, who must unite with the likes of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff AKA The Scarlet Witch, Benedict Wong’s Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer when the multiverse starts to collapse and a new, oddly familiar villain begins to rise.

The sequel will also mark the debut of Xochitl Gomez as American Chavez, a teenager with the ability to punch holes through universes and thus travel freely throughout the multiverse. The footage seen so far from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness promises the MCU’s most surreal and terrifying adventure in the franchise so far.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Reviews Praise Director Sam Raimi’s Vision

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premiered at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on May 2, 2022, and reviews so far have been generally positive. While some have criticized the movie for being messy and favoring spectacle over substance, most have heaped praise on the hiring of Evil Dead director Sam Raimi and what he has brought to the ongoing Marvel franchise.

“Marvel’s most deranged and energetic movie yet, as much of a winning comeback for director Sam Raimi as it is a mega-budget exercise in universal stakes-raising,” said Empire Magazine, who gave the movie an impressive 4/5. “Multiverse of Madness hurtles its characters from one reality to another, shedding the blandness of its opening stretch and giving Raimi, bless him, room to do things his way. As the film unfolds, Raimi’s hiring proves ever more inspired,” adds Vanity Fair.

Many have also praised Elizabeth Olsen’s performance as Wanda Maximoff, with the former Avenger expected to become the villain of the story as she attempts to find some semblance of happiness within the multiverse. “Elizabeth Olsen steals the show with a butt-kicking, emotionally complex performance,” our own Julian Roman says in his review. “Wanda has suffered so much pain. Her character arc is quite intriguing. She has become immensely powerful. I highly recommend watching WandaVision before seeing this film.”

Directed by Sam Raimi and written by Michael Waldron, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to hit theaters on May 6, as part of Phase Four of the MCU. And, if presale tickets are anything to go by, it’s going to be massive.
