Samsung has made it a tradition to introduce a new version of its iconic “Over The Horizon” ringtone with every new flagship launch. The company is sticking to the tradition this year as well. Ahead of the Galaxy S23 launch later today, it has released a fresh iteration of the default Galaxy ringtone. The 2023 version of Over The Horizon is reimagined by DJ Yaeji, an American music composer and singer of Korean descent. Samsung portrays her as “one of the most exciting electronic artists in the modern music scene.”
According to Samsung, this year’s Over The Horizon ringtone “celebrates positivity and optimism in an evolving world”. DJ Yaeji used “a fusion of electronic elements” to give the iconic tune a new breath while keeping its key sound. The accompanying video tries to evoke a feeling of joy in a world that has suffered a lot since the coronavirus pandemic broke out in early 2020. The aftereffects of the pandemic can be felt even today in various senses. The video incorporates stop-motion art and digital graphics for a refreshing watch.
“This playful version evokes universal feelings of hope and joy, inviting us to imagine and be optimistic about what’s on the other side of the horizon,” Samsung said in a press release announcing the Galaxy S23 version of the Over The Horizon ringtone. You can watch the full video below. If you want to check out the Galaxy S22 version, you can click here. Samsung collaborated with LA-based musician Kiefer Shackelford last year. In the year before, the company teamed up with SUGA, aka Min Yoon-gi, of the popular Korean boy band BTS for the same job.
