Amy Adams is back as Disney Princess Giselle in the latest trailer for the highly anticipated Disney sequel, Disenchanted. Released courtesy of Walt Disney Studios, the new footage offers another look at the sequel, which will pick up a decade after the events of 2007’s Enchanted, and finds that things do not always end with a happily ever after.
It has been more than ten years since Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, but Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city, so they move their growing family to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of a more fairy tale life. Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for. Suburbia has a whole new set of rules and a local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), who makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever. Frustrated that her happily ever after hasn’t been so easy to find, she turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fairy tale and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy. Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.
Disenchanted stars Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jayma Mays, Gabriella Baldacchino, with Idina Menzel and James Marsden. Directed by Adam Shankman from a screenplay by Brigitte Hales and a story by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss, and Richard LaGravenese. The Disney sequel is produced by Barry Josephson, Barry Sonnenfeld, and Amy Adams, with Jo Burn, Sunil Perkash, and Adam Shankman serving as executive producers.
Much like its predecessor, Disenchanted will feature all manner of singing and dancing, with the sequel set to include songs with music by 8-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken and lyrics by three-time Oscar-winning lyricist Stephen Schwartz, whose work on Enchanted garnered three Academy Award nominations and a score by Alan Menken.
Disenchanted Will Debut on Disney+ Later This Month
Enchanted fans have been waiting a while for the sequel, and Amy Adams has promised that it will not disappoint where the singing and dancing is concerned. “There’s a lot more singing and a lot more dancing which was humbling,” the actress revealed while discussing the project last year. “The last time I really danced as much as I’m required to dance in this, I was in my 20s and now I’m not in my 20s. It feels different in your 40s. In my heart, I look like I’m in my 20s when I’m dancing, and then I would watch playback and be like, ‘Whoa, that’s not the same.'”
But bringing a sequel to screens so long after the first outing is not without its challenges, as director Adam Shankman has previously explained. “It comes with some obstacles,” the filmmaker said. “Well, you know, after 10 years of living in the real world after being an animated character in a land that believes in happily ever after, she’s realizing that that’s just not really a thing and it’s hard for her to understand. So she’s a little bit disenchanted by how life her, (she and her daughter) can’t connect, the baby’s difficult. There’s a lot going on in her world and she tries to control it and that’s where all things go wrong.”
Disenchanted is scheduled to debut on Disney+ on November 18, 2022.
