Discord’s new paid avatar frames include fantasy and anime themes

Discord is adding more benefits for users with avatar frames that you can collect and keep, but you’ll have to pay for most of them. Also worth noting is that these are exclusive to Nitro at the moment as Nitro users are getting early access. But all users should eventually have access.

The avatar frames are part of Discord’s new in-app shop which will contain more things in the future. Discord says it’s already hard at work designing new styles. For now there’s just these frames though. The shop itself is also available to Nitro users as part of early access. So if you have Nitro, you can check out the shop now and look at all the frames by clicking on the ‘Nitro’ chat and then clicking on the “go to shop” button in the ‘avatar decorations’ banner. Additionally, this is a feature that’s limited to the desktop app as it’s not currently available for the Android app or the iOS app. Nor do the frames show up around your avatar on mobile even if you set them on desktop.

Discord paid avatar frames include a few different themes

There are currently a few different themes available for spicing up your Discord avatar – Fantasy, Anime, Breakfast, and ‘Disxcore.’ None of the Disxcore frames (of which there are three) will cost you a thing so you can add them to your collection free of charge. Frames from the other three themes will have prices ranging from $3.99 to $9.99. These will be one-time purchases and the avatar frames you collect you do get to keep. Forever. Unlike the Christmas themed avatar frames that Discord introduced for Nitro users last year which were only around for a limited time.

Also worth noting is that Nitro subscribers will get discounts on these frames. For instance, all the Anime themed frames are normally $7.99 but you’ll pay $5.49 if you subscribe to Nitro. Discord doesn’t mention when this will be available for non-Nitro users. But the shop page does say “Nitro early access” specifically. Which suggests that non-Nitro users will eventually be able to buy these as well in the near future.
