Discord today is rolling out a new feature – soundboards. More specifically, the ability to play soundboard clips in voice chat so you can annoy your friends till they wish they didn’t have ears.
Now, this isn’t the intent of this feature. It’s simply meant as a new way to add reactions to voice chats in your channel or community. But we all know how people are going to use it. As a funny way to meme on friends in the middle of a conversation. I can tell you this is what will happen. Because I’m personally already scheming about potential sound clips to use. And it’s highly unlikely that I am alone in this train of thought.
Soundboards aren’t the only new feature being added though. Nitro subscribers can now add super reactions to chat posts. These add an extra little animation to the reactions you respond to messages with. These are basically just animated emoji. Discord also added five new themes to the original sixteen that were added last month. The new themes are Neon Nights, Strawberry Lemonade, Sepia, Aurora, and Retro Storm. Additionally, there are new limited-time avatar decorations to celebrate spring time.
Discord users can upload their own sounds to the soundboards feature
Initially users will have six different built-in sounds. This includes a quack, a “ba dum tss” sound, a cricket, an air horn, a sad horn, and a golf clap. And you can continuously click them for added effect. You can probably already see how this is going to go. To make things even better, you can upload your own sound clips. Just imagine the possibilities.
Before you get too excited though, uploading clips will have limitations. They must be in MP3 format, they can only be 512kb, and they can’t exceed 5 seconds in length. Even then, you still have tons of options here. You can read more about the soundboards feature and the other new features in Discord’s official blog.
