The massive art-sharing community DeviantArt is now the AI-generated image train. The company just announced that it has its own generator named DreamUp. While this is the case, DeviantArt has some policies for this generator to help keep true artists protected.
We understand why Google would get into AI images, as it is a gigantic AI tech company. However, it seems rather ironic that DeviantArt would make an AI image generator. The company is all about sharing your own hand-drawn work. We can expect a lot of artists to feel some way about this.
However, DeviantArt has its own AI image generator
The company unveiled DreamUp, and, as you can imagine, it lets you type in a simple text prompt. The program will then create an image made from that text prompt. It’s not much different from DALL-E, Craiyon, Midjourney, or any other AI generators we see in the wild.
The thing about DeviantArt’s image generator is the fact that it has more than enough images for inspiration. The program has a massive database of art that’s been collected for more than a decade.
If you are interested in trying it out, you get five prompts for free. After that point, you will need to upgrade. There are four payment tears that you can get.
The $3.99/month Core tier will give you 50 prompts, and the $7.95/month Core+ tier will give you 100. The $9.95/month here will give you 200 prompts, and the $14.95/month Pro+ tier will give you 300 prompts.
All payment tiers give you access to high-quality images and the two higher tiers will give you four images per prompt. The two lower tiers will give you three images per prompt.
The company still wants to protect true artists
Since DeviantArt has been a platform for true hand-drawn artists, having an AI generator seems a bit sacrilegious. However, according to Engadget, The company gives artists the option to exclude their art from the database.
This means that other people will not be able to emulate images using their style. Artists will undoubtedly be upset by DreamUp, but this does help level the playing field a little bit.
