Given the prevalence of social media, the theme has made its way into many horror movies in recent years. Unfriended was a notable one that managed to get a sequel, while movies like Deadcon follow social media stars fighting against paranormal forces. There have been some interesting takes on the genre like with The Deep House, which focuses on YouTubers diving deep to an underwater mansion to get footage for their followers where they similarly have encounters that make them realize that the online following just isn’t worth it.

More recently, the new horror film Deadstream capitalized further on the craze, and did so with strong results. Streaming on Shudder, the film follows a social media star looking for views and followers by streaming his time spent in the most “haunted” place he can find, but comes to find out he gets more than he bargained for. Our own Julian Roman gave the film a good review.

Where will Deinfluencer rank with the other social media-based horror movies? Find out soon enough. Deinfluencer will be released on Digital and VOD in the United States and Canada on Dec. 6, 2022.
