Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired North American rights to writer-director David Beton’s action-thriller, Confession. The film, starring Stephen Moyer (True Blood, Fortunate Son) and Colm Meaney (Seberg, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), had its market premiere at EFM earlier this year. It will arrive in theaters and on VOD in January, and you can check out the official trailer below.

“I feel extremely privileged and excited to be working with such a fantastic cast on Confession,” said Beton when the movie was first announced last year. “I’m delighted to be collaborating with Signature again, and Lucinda and Jeet from Picture Perfect have been superb. I’m sure this will be the first of many. Let’s end 2020 with a bang!”

The synopsis reads: “An intense-thriller played in real time during one fateful night, Confession fixes on a wounded man (Moyer) who takes a priest (Meaney) hostage, determined to confess to a past misdemeanor before it’s too late.”

Written and directed by David Beton (One Last Heist), Confession also stars Clare-Hope Ashitey (Children of Men). Producers are Picture Perfect’s Lucinda Rhodes Thakrar and Jeet Thakrar. Signature’s Elizabeth Williams is an executive producer. Andrew Nerger of Signature Entertainment negotiated the deal on behalf of the film team with Keith Leopard of Uncork’d Entertainment.

Confession is a very suspenseful, thrilling ride with terrific performances from two always-dependable performers, Moyer and Meany,” said Keith Leopard, President Uncork’d Entertainment. “It’s an incredible film to kick off our exciting 2022 slate.”

“I’ve actually done three films since August, all in the UK once they started up again. One film in particular that I’m looking forward to is Confession, with myself and Stephen Moyer,” star Colm Meaney told Screen Rant. “It’s kind of a two-hander. It’s very film noir and all takes place in a church over one evening, set in Boston. But we shot it near Ipswich in England, so it’s all interior. It’s an interior of the church.”

Stephen Moyer is perhaps best known for his role as the vampire Bill Compton in the HBO series True Blood, a show that is currently getting rebooted at the cabler. He also starred as Reed Strucker in the Fox series The Gifted and as Vern Lang on the CBC series Fortunate Son. Recently, the actor appeared in the romantic drama After We Fell from director Castille Landon, and fans can also watch out for him in the upcoming series Safehaven.

Star Trek fans will recognize Colm Meaney from his role in the franchise as Miles O’Brien. He is also acclaimed for his role as the antagonist Thomas Durant in the Western series Hell on Wheels. The actor recently appeared in the sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the movies The Last Right, The Banker, and Pixie. He is also a part of the ensemble cast of Neil Jordan’s upcoming period film Marlowe, which also stars Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, Jessica Lange, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Daniela Melchior, among others.

Uncork’d will be releasing Confession in theaters on Jan. 21, 2022, followed by a VOD release on Jan. 25.
