Confess, Fletch Brings Fletch Back to the Big Screen

“We look forward to bringing Fletch’s iconic character back to the big screen with a modern-day twist,” producer Connie Tavel previously said in a statement. “While the original film has been hailed a cult classic with a strong fan base, we are showcasing Fletch through a new comedic and sophisticated lens, highlighting the nuances of his character and the intricacies of his career as an investigative journalist.”

Hamm has also stated, “I am beyond excited to continue to tell the story of Irwin M. Fletcher… but please don’t call him Irwin. I can’t wait for people to see what I hope will be the first of many installments in Gregory Mcdonald’s wonderful detective novel series. As a fan of the books for even longer than I have been a fan of the original film, it’s an honor and a pleasure to bring “Fletch” back home, in all his shambling and off-center yet somehow witty and sophisticated, messy, funny, glory to Paramount.”

Chevy Chase previously played a big screen version of Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher in the 1985 movie Fletch, which was written by Andrew Bergman and directed by Michael Ritchie. Chase would reprise the role for the 1989 sequel Fletch Lives with Ritchie also back to direct using a script by Leon Capetanos. There have been efforts in the years since for another Fletch movie to be made, but only more recently has the project finally managed to make some traction with Hamm attached.

We will see how this new version of the Fletch story turns out when the film has its premiere. Confess, Fletch is scheduled to premiere in theaters and PVOD outlets on Sept. 16, 2022. It will later hit Showtime on Oct. 28.
