Cocaine Bear is due to land in theaters next month.
The Cocaine Bear is just a bear of the people in the latest look at the upcoming horror comedy. Released courtesy of the official Cocaine Bear Twitter account, the footage reveals another look at the drug-fueled grizzly as he is treated to a copious amount of free blow before embarking on a bloody mission of violent revenge.
The latest footage from Cocaine Bear brings several reactions to the B-movie delights we have seen from the movie so far. “Real cinema is back,” declares one user. A sentiment that can surely be agreed upon by all of us. “My body is so ready for this movie,” says another, as the titular Cocaine Bear climbs a tree at record speed to devour another victim.
“Cocaine Bear is super-entertaining. If you want to let go of everything in your life for 95 minutes, this is a great way to do that,” Cocaine Bear director Elizabeth Banks said of the project, which promises to lean heavily into its ridiculous plot. “It’s an incredible adventure. There are some really beautiful messages in it. It’s been fun to see people relate to the movie. It’s terrifying [when a film is finished and out of your hands]. That’s my horror movie right there. There’s only so much that I can control.”
Surprisingly, Cocaine Bear Follows a Bear on Cocaine
Cocaine Bear is inspired by a wild true story from 1985 of a drug runner’s plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it. In real-life, an American black bear did indeed ingest several pounds of cocaine that were thrown from a plane during a drug-smuggling run, but sadly authorities found that bear deceased around three months after the incident and thus long before he could go on a murderous rampage against the people who so cruelly opened his eyes to the addictiveness of nose candy. The real bear has now been stuffed and named “Pablo Eskobear.”
Playing fast and loose with reality, Cocaine Bear is a wild thriller that finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists, and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow…and blood.
Cocaine Bear is helmed by director and actress Elizabeth Banks. Known for roles in the likes of The Hunger Games franchise, the Pitch Perfect franchise, The Lego Movie franchise, and much, much more, Banks has been behind the camera before with such movies as Pitch Perfect 2 and 2019’s Charlie’s Angels.
Written by Jimmy Warden, Cocaine Bear features an ensemble cast that includes Keri Russell (The Americans, Antlers), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton, Obi-Wan Kenobi), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Margo Martindale (BoJack Horseman), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), Brooklyn Prince (Home Before Dark), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Kahyun Kim (American Gods), newcomer Scott Seiss, and the late, great Ray Liotta (Goodfellas, The Many Saints of Newark).
Cocaine Bear is scheduled to be released on Feb. 24 by Universal Pictures.
