Rocky Rhodes and Ginger return in the first trailer for Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, which sees Aardman Animations bring this wonderful world of poultry to life once again. Released courtesy of Netflix, on which Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will debut, the footage teases a new adventure for the gang, who return to our screens after more than two decades. Check out the first trailer for Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget below.
Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget picks up with Ginger having finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland, the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in!
Directed by Sam Fell (Flushed Away, ParaNorman) and from a screenplay by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will make a few (somewhat controversial) changes to voice cast. Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi stars as Rocky Rhodes, replacing Mel Gibson who voiced the character the first time around, with Thandiwe Newton taking over as Ginger, replacing Julia Sawalha.
The rest of the cast includes The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey as Molly alongside Romesh Ranganathan, Daniel Mays, Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton, Lynn Ferguson, Josie Sedgwick-Davies, and Nick Mohammed, with David Bradley starring as Fowler and taking over from the late Benjamin Whitrow who sadly passed away in 2017.
Aardman Animations & Netflix Are Also Working on a New Wallace & Gromit Outing
Not only will we be getting a new Chicken Run adventure, Aardman Animations and Netflix are all set to team up again for a new Wallace & Gromit movie. The beloved animation studio confirmed recently that the new Wallace & Gromit outing will land on the streaming platform in 2024.
“The 30th anniversary celebrations coincide with the production of a brand-new Wallace & Gromit film – the first since 2008’s A Matter of Loaf and Death, which was the UK’s most-viewed TV programme of the 2000s with over 16.2 million viewers tuning in to watch,” a statement on the official Wallace and Gromit website said at the time. “This brand-new, as-yet untitled adventure will premiere exclusively on Netflix around the world except in the UK, where it will debut first on the BBC before also coming to Netflix. It is set for release in 2024.”
While the new Wallace & Gromit movie does not have a title yet, it has been revealed that it will find the titular duo battling sentient garden gnomes. “Gromit’s concern that Wallace has become over-dependant on his inventions proves justified, when Wallace invents a “smart gnome” that seems to develop a mind of its own,” the logline for the Wallace & Gromit Netflix movie reads. “As events spiral out of control, it falls to Gromit to put aside his qualms and battle sinister forces – or Wallace may never be able to invent again!”
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will have its premiere at the 67th London Film Festival on 14 October 2023 and is due to be released on Netflix on 15 December.
