Bloodborne is hailed by many as one of the absolute best games from the PS4 era, and now it seems the game has been modded to run at 1080p resolution and 60fps on a PS5.
That might not sound like much of an achievement, but the process of getting this to work is more challenging than you might think. The mod patch, created by modder Lance McDonald was originally released for PS4 back in 2022. But you apparently couldn’t get a locked 60 fps without downgrading the game’s resolution to 720p. Which for some might be quite the big tradeoff. As noted by TechRadar’s Aleksha McLoughlin, McDonald has now gotten the patch to work on PS5 with a fairly stable 60 frames per second at the higher 1080p resolution.
If the name Lance McDonald sounds familiar, it might be because McDonald is also the person behind the jailbreak of the PS5.
Running Bloodborne at 60fps on a PS5 likely requires the jailbreak
If you aren’t up for jailbreaking your console, then you’ll have to stick with playing Bloodborne on the PS5 at 30 fps. This is a modded patch after all. That being said, McDonald has stated that he has released the patch. So anyone who has a jailbroken PS5 can install the patch and play the game more smoothly if they’d like.
If you don’t want to go through all of that, you can still enjoy the higher frames. You’ll just need to do so vicariously through McDonald’s video. Players have been requesting a PS5-optimized version of Bloodborne for a while. And it’s kind of a wonder that developers FromSoftware haven’t given the game that attention.
Of course, even at 30fps, Bloodborne on a PS5 is still fun to play. So don’t let the fact that you can’t play it a higher frame rate deter you. Now might be a good time to revisit it.
