Foldable smartphones are not exactly cheap. Their price tags have been dropping since they arrived to the market, but they’re still quite expensive. Companies like Tecno have been trying to lower the bar, but those devices don’t have the reach of Samsung’s, not even close. So, you’ll be glad to know that foldable phones from Samsung are also said to become more affordable starting in 2024.

Samsung is planning to start offering cheaper foldable phones starting in 2024

This information comes from Park Jin, a senior analyst over at Counterpoint Research (via Revegnus, a tipster). He claims that Samsung will be able to launch cheaper foldable smartphones in the $600-$700 price range starting next year.

He also noted that we’ll see significant growth in the foldable smartphone market in H2 2023. That expansion will be driven by Chinese companies, and Samsung’s market share will dip. That is to be expected, though.

The analyst also noted Huawei as the company that may start selling “entry-level foldables”. Do note that “entry-level foldable” doesn’t mean they’ll have entry-level specs like regular phones. It simply means the most affordable foldables from the company, basically.

These devices will likely be a part of the company’s ‘Galaxy FE’ series

Chances are that Samsung will launch those more affordable foldable phones as part of its ‘Galaxy FE’ series. The Galaxy S23 FE is right around the corner, as we may start seeing ‘Fold’ and ‘Flip’ phones included in the ‘Galaxy FE’ series too.

We do not know what kind of specs will Samsung deliver on the upcoming phones, not yet. Things will start becoming clearer in the coming months, probably. Also, despite the fact Samsung is expected to start launching such devices next year, we don’t know when exactly will that happen.

It sure is exciting, and it will push the industry forward, of course. The cheaper foldable phones get, the more people will choose to try them out. That will increase the market share of foldable smartphones, and thus pull more companies in. The more the merrier, as far as consumers are concerned.
