There’s a good chance you won’t be able to buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Ross Young, a well-known display analyst, has confirmed that the phone’s production will kick off next month. That’s not all he said, though.

In his thread on X, he was asked if the device would be coming to Europe. Ross Young said that it’s not going to happen. Most of the produced units are aimed at the Chinese smartphone market, while the rest will be shipped off to Korea.
In other words, this smartphone will not be available globally, as rumored. Consumers in the US and Europe will not be able to get their hands on it. Well, unless they decide to import one, of course.
Ross Young did mention that the phone will get ‘UFG’, which is “thicker UTG except in the seam area which will help with scratch resistance, durability and seam visibility”.
For those of you out of the loop, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is the company’s upcoming premium foldable. This foldable phone will be thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. It will also have a better camera setup on the back.
The device will be 10.6mm thick when folded, and have an 8-inch main display
The device will be 10.6mm thick when folded, and 4.9mm thick when unfolded. Its main display will measure 8 inches, while the second panel will measure 6.5 inches. That info was confirmed by Evan Blass.
The device is also said to include a 200-megapixel main camera on the back, and Ross Young reconfirmed that too. By the looks of it, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition will basically be what the Galaxy Z Fold 6 should have been.
Samsung apparently wants to create some competition to the Chinese brands in China that keep pushing ultra-thin book-style foldable to the market. More and more of those are spreading to other markets, such as the HONOR Magic V3 whose global variant will be announced at IFA.
Not launching the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in Europe and the US may be a mistake for Samsung. It remains to be seen.
