Many of you probably noticed that the Nothing Phone (2) design leaked yesterday. A well-known tipster partnered up with SmartPrix to deliver CAD-based renders of the phone. Those images may not be as accurate as we thought, though.

The recently leaked Nothing Phone (2) design indirectly called ‘fake’ by the company’s CEO

OnLeaks is rarely mistaken when it comes to such images, but this time around, he could be. Soon after the images went out, Carl Pei, Nothing’s founder, tweeted out the word ‘Fake’ via his official Twitter account.

He did not mention the leak itself, or anything of the sort, but the sheer timing of that tweet is revealing. OnLeaks was mentioned in the comments, and decided to reply to Carl Pei’s statement.

He shared a screenshot from SmartPrix’s article, in which it clearly says that this design is based on “live pictures of a testing stage unit. It is important to note that these renders represent the device at a specific point in its development, and it is possible that some minor changes may have been made to the design until the official launch”.

The tipster still believes this design is at least very close to the final product

To that, OnLeaks added that the images may not be 100% accurate, but calling them ‘fake’ “actually is a bold and wrong claim”. So, it seems like the tipster still believes that this is the Nothing Phone (2), but the final unit could have some minor design changes.

Truth be said, if that ends up being true, then Carl Pei was a bit off with this statement. We’ll have to wait until some point in July to find out. That’s when the phone will launch, but we still don’t have a launch date.

The thing is, Nothing could reveal its design prior to launch. The company simply loves to hype up its products, and that would not exactly be surprising. We’ll at least get bits and pieces of its design, which could help us solve this puzzle.

The design OnLeaks shared actually looks very similar to the Nothing Phone (1). There are some minor changes, but many people would struggle to differentiate between the two phones.
