In addition to announcing the Motorola Moto X40 flagship, the company also introduced its budget offering, the Moto G53. This handset is a lot more affordable than the company’s flagship, of course.

The Motorola Moto G53 is now official, the company’s new budget offering

We’ll get to the pricing details at the very end, let’s talk about the device itself first. The Moto G53 actually looks like what you’d expect. It has a flat display, with fairly thin bezels, and a centered display camera hole. Its bottom bezel is slightly thicker than it would be on more expensive devices.

There are two cameras on the back of the phone, while all of its physical buttons sit on the right-hand side. The sides are kind of flat, but chamfered edges are also a part of the package.

There is a 120Hz display included here

The device includes a 6.5-inch HD+ (1600 x 720) LCD display. This display is flat, and it has a 120Hz refresh rate. We’re also looking at a 20:9 display aspect ratio here. The display offers a 240Hz touch sampling rate, and PWM dimming too.

Motorola did not reveal the exact SoC it’s using here, but we know it’s an octa-core Snapdragon chip. The phone comes in 4GB and 8GB RAM models, with 128GB of storage. Motorola included LPDDR4X RAM here. You can expand the storage if you want, up to 1TB.

Android 13 comes pre-installed

Android 13 comes pre-installed on the device, with Motorola’s MyUI 5.0, in China. Two SIM card slots (2x nano SIM) are included here, and a separate slot for a microSD card too.

There is an audio jack included too, and the phone is IP52 certified. That means it’s splash resistant. A 5,000mAh battery sits on the inside, and the phone supports 18W wired charging.

5G connectivity is not offered, but the Moto G52 does support dual 4G VoLTE, and comes with Bluetooth 5 support. There is a Type-C USB port at the bottom of the phone.

The pricing starts at $129

This handset comes in Black and Azure White color options. The 4GB RAM model with 128GB of storage costs CNY899 ($129). The model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at CNY1,099 ($157).

Motorola did not share any information regarding this phone’s global availability. It is possible it’ll make its way to more markets, though.
