The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a major contract for the construction of a bridge linking Dubai Islands to Bur Dubai, a key step towards boosting connectivity in Dubai’s growing waterfront developments. This AED 786 million project is part of a strategic agreement with Dubai Holding, reflecting Dubai’s commitment to enhancing its road network and supporting urban growth.
The bridge linking Dubai Islands to Bur Dubai will span 1,425 meters and feature four lanes in each direction, accommodating up to 16,000 vehicles per hour. It will include a dedicated pedestrian and cycling track to encourage sustainable mobility. Positioned between the Infinity Bridge and Port Rashid, the bridge will rise 18.5 meters above Dubai Creek, ensuring smooth maritime traffic with a 75-meter-wide navigational channel.
In addition to the main bridge, the project includes 2,000 meters of surface roads connecting both ends of Dubai Islands and Bur Dubai, seamlessly integrating with the existing road network. The design focuses on improving traffic flow, reducing congestion, and enhancing accessibility for residents and visitors alike.
This Bridge Linking Dubai Islands to Bur Dubai is part of the wider Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project, which aims to revamp a 13-kilometer stretch with 15 intersections, benefiting approximately one million people. This major infrastructure initiative is expected to cut travel time from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes and save AED 45 billion over the next two decades.
Dubai Holding’s partnership with RTA highlights a shared vision to elevate the emirate’s infrastructure, making the bridge linking Dubai Islands to Bur Dubai a crucial element in the development of integrated, future-ready communities.
Beyond this bridge, the AED 6 billion agreement covers additional upgrades in other key areas like Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC), Dubai Production City, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, and International City (Phase 3). These enhancements include new entry and exit points, flyovers, pedestrian bridges, and improvements to intersections and surface roads, all contributing to reduced travel times and smoother traffic flow.
