The Imaginary Director’s Filmography May Offer Clues to the Horror Film’s Tone
Jeff Wadlow is in charge of directing Imaginary, and he’s a filmmaker with extensive experience in the world of horror. His first project as a director was a short film titled The Tower of Babble, in 2002. In 2005, he directed Cry Wolf, his first feature film. The story focuses on a young man who arrives in a new town where a girl has just been murdered, and makes friends with a group who dedicate themselves to spread rumors. After making everyone believe the latest crime was committed by a serial killer, they unleash a real bloodbath.
That film was followed by Never Back Down and Kick-Ass 2, and the comedy True Memoirs of an International Assassin. In 2018, he returned to horror with Truth or Dare, a movie about a group of friends who are on vacation and on their last night decide to play a seemingly innocent game of truth or dare in an abandoned church, causing a curse to fall on them.
In 2020, he directed another horror title, Fantasy Island, which is set on a beautiful island where Mr. Roarke turns his visitors’ dreams into reality. But, little by little, those dreams end up turning into a nightmare, when the dark secret that the place hides is revealed.
With these titles, it’s clear that Wadlow has a knack for scaring audiences and playing with elements of mystery within his stories, and he’ll put all that talent to use for Imaginary.
