Blood Relatives is a new film coming to the streaming service Shudder after sweeping the festival circuit. Noah Segan of Knives Out and Starry Eyes fame wrote, directed, and starred in the film. He’ll play Francis, a 115-year-old Yoddosh vampire that still looks 35. He’s been roaming the backroads of American in a beat-up muscle car for decades, keeping to himself and liking it that way. So, of course, he’s not going to stay that way.

One day, a teenager named Jane, played by Victoria Moroles from Teen Wolf and Never Have I Ever, shows up at the motel he’s staying at. Having tracked Francis down by using the internet, she claims to be his daughter. A statement that is backed up by the fact that she had fangs. Besides that, unlike Francis, she can also go out in the daytime with sunscreen.

Upon getting confirmation that Jane is, in fact, his daughter, Francis doesn’t know what to do. He’s advised to find something they could do together. While the trailer immediately cuts to Jane feeding and presumably killing someone, the official plan is for the two of them to go on a road trip.

Blood Relatives is being advertised as being from the makers of Scare Me and The Endless. Josh Ruben, who wrote, directed, and starred in the former, can be seen in the trailer, seemingly playing a Renfield-type character of some sort. He’s a mental patient seen asking Jane for “a taste,” with her sticking her finger out for him to put in his mouth. Whether Ruben will be a supporting player or just a fun cameo remains to be seen.

Alamo Drafthouse and Fantastic Fest founder Tim League said:

“I saw the film at Fantastic Fest last month and fell in love. I ended up taking my 11-year-old daughter to the next screening two days later, and she was equally smitten. It was her first vampire film (outside of Hotel Transylvania) and her first Fantastic Fest film. In honor of that, Noah and I will have special gifts for all dads with their kids at every stop of the tour.”

Following each screening, there will be a Q&A with Segan. One of the moderators will be Douglas Benson, comedian, podcaster, actor, and producer, who will work the Downtown Los Angeles, CA Q&A. Another will be Peaches Christ, filmmaker, actor, and entertainer, who will be moderating the Q&A at New Mosson, San Francisco, CA.
