“Only the most broken people can be great leaders,” echo the first words of Namor the Submariner in the newly released trailer for the highly anticipated Marvel sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Released courtesy of Marvel Entertainment, this latest footage offers a much more detailed look at the follow-up — including glimpses at Namor and Ironheart — and perhaps even confirms several rumors along the way. You can check out the new trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever below.
The first minute or so of the new trailer is draped in sadness as it offers hints regarding the passing of Wakandan leader, T’Challa. Following the death of actor Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will mirror real-life, with the character of T’Challa passing away between the events of Avengers: Endgame and now.
After revealing the state of Wakanda, the action quickly kicks into gear as Namor declares war on the surface world and the nation of Wakanda. Played by Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta, this latest trailer gives us our best look yet at the character’s live-action, big-screen debut. A debut that will feature Namor’s winged ankles. The actor certainly cuts an intimidating figure as Namor and clearly has the potential to be one of the best villain-slash-antiheroes the MCU has ever seen.
“The contrast between T’Challa and Namor – their characters and their nations – just leaps off the page. He’s a dream antagonist,” Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler said recently of the inclusion of Namor.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Trailer #2 Reveals Who Will Pick Up the Mantle
While it is not explicitly stated, the footage in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s second trailer near enough confirms that yes, it will be Letitia Wright’s Shuri who picks up the mantle of the Black Panther. This has been rumored for some time, with this newly released footage hinting heavily that Shuri, devastated by the death of T’Challa, will step up and protect Wakanda — with the final moment of the trailer showing off the new Black Panther suit in all its glory.
“In Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death,” the official synopsis for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever reads. “As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.”
Directed by Ryan Coogler, who has co-written the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever stars Letitia Wright as Shuri, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams aka Ironheart, Michaela Coel as Aneka, Tenoch Huerta as Namor, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, and Angela Bassett as Ramonda.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 11, 2022, as the final film in Phase Four of the MCU.
