Beyerdynamic has announced a brand-new gaming headset coming to market called the MMX 330 Pro that it says will bring studio-quality sound to gamers around the world. If you’re familiar with beyerdynamic, you might remember its MMX 100 and MMX 150 gaming headsets from a few years ago. These were in the $100 to $150 range, with the MMX 150 being the more expensive of the two. However, both those prices were fairly affordable and you got some pretty good audio quality for a low price.

With the MMX 330 Pro, beyerdynamic is taking a slightly different approach. These have a significantly higher price of $330 and beyerdynamic isn’t using a closed-back design. Instead, the company says it went with an open-back design to deliver a wider soundstage. For the gamers out there who don’t care so much about technical audio details, this will result in a more immersive experience with the game audio. So your game sounds come to life a little more. There’s also another benefit to this.

Improved perception of directional sounds. This won’t necessarily come into play in every game. It can, however, be a big advantage in shooters with directional audio like footsteps.

The beyerdynamic MMX 330 Pro mic can help minimize background noise

Have you ever played a multiplayer game with your friends and one of them makes a callout, but it doesn’t come through clearly because there’s a bunch of additional noise in the background? It’s not a great experience and you definitely don’t want to be that person. With the MMX 330 Pro, beyerdynamic aims to get rid of that as much as possible. The MMX 330 Pro comes with a 10mm condenser microphone that the company says was engineered to minimize background noise. It also “captures voices naturally” so you come through clearly to your teammates.

The company also says that the cable for the headphones eliminates crosstalk. So when you speak, people on the other end won’t hear the game audio through your mic. Clear comms are important if you play competitive multiplayer games (like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6). So a good mic is something you want on your gaming headset of choice. The headset is also said to be exceptionally comfortable thanks to a few design details. Namely the cushy and breathable velour earpads and the fontanelle recess on the inner part of the headband.

Use it with all your favorite gaming platforms

Although the MMX 330 Pro isn’t a wireless headset, it’ll work with just about any platform. This includes PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. You can use it with handheld PC gaming units as well. This versatility definitely helps justify the price a bit and makes it a little more reasonable. Because it means you won’t need to buy another headset for those other platforms.

The beyerdynamic MMX 330 Pro goes on sale today and is available through Amazon as well as beyerdynamic’s own website.
