A rugged smartphone with a 1-inch sensor, a gigantic battery & thermal imaging capabilities.
Ulefone announced a rather interesting smartphone at IFA 2024. The company presented the Ulefone Armor 29 Ultra Thermal Variant during the tradeshow, and we decided to set aside one of our ‘Best of IFA 2024’ awards for the device. This handset is not only a rugged smartphone but has a lot of additional aces up its sleeve. When you read about its features and specs, you really do get surprised.
The Ulefone Armor 28 Ultra has a second display, and utilizes MediaTek’s flagship SoC
This phone does look like a rugged phone straight away, however, it has a small, circular display on the back. A 1.04-inch AMOLED panel is located back there, right below the phone’s cameras. There is also a rear-facing fingerprint scanner included here, which is not something we see that often anymore This is yet another phone from the company to have thermal imaging capabilities too. We presume that a non-thermal variant will also launch, though.
Moving on, the phone is fueled by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processor. That is MediaTek’s flagship chip. That’s another oddity here, as we don’t often see rugged phones fueled by a flagship SoC. The Armor 28 Ultra is also well-equipped in the RAM department too. Ulefone has included 16GB of RAM inside of this smartphone. If you thought that’s it? Well, no, not really, there’s more.
There is a 1-inch camera sensor included on the back of this phone
You would not exactly expect a 1-inch camera sensor inside a rugged smartphone, right? Well, it’s included here, though. The Sony IMX989 camera sensor sits on the back of the phone. That is Sony’s 1-inch camera sensor. That camera sensor is used in some flagship camera smartphones, it’s a very powerful sensor. With the right software and a lens, it can do some serious damage.
If you’re worried about battery life, perhaps, well, there’s no need to be. There is a gigantic 10,600mAh battery included inside of this phone too. That battery would be huge for any smartphone, really. In combination with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display, a small display on the back, and MediaTek’s flagship chip… this should be a great combo for battery life. Ulefone has a very interesting phone to offer, here, that’s for sure.
