Berlin will be back for another heist! Premiering on Netflix over the Christmas break, the show has done enough to warrant a second outing, with Netflix confirming that the show will be coming back.
As we noted in our season 2 renewal status article (which we’ll soon be turning into more of an overview preview for the second season in due course), performance for Berlin was very strong, so much so that it currently ranks in Netflix’s all-time top 10 with season 1 currently the ninth most watched show within the first 91-days of release beating Dear Child but quickly closing in on All of Us are Dead.
As of the time of publishing, the show has spent seven weeks in the Netflix global top 10s, with week two viewing hours rising an incredible 97% on week 1.
Today’s renewal came with a short teaser of Berlin (portrayed by Pedro Alonso) himself entering an elevator which closes with the number 2 overlayed.
The announcement also came alongside the news that most of the cast is already signed up for the second season too. That includes:
- Michelle Jenner as Keila
- Tristán Ulloa as Damián
- Begoña Vargas as Cameron,
- Julio Peña Fernández as Roi
- Joel Sánchez as Bruce
Other renewed shows in Netflix’s Spanish slate include Elite, set to return for its final season in 2024, and The Snow Girl, which is returning for a season 2.
It’s also worth noting that Álex Pina also recently teased that the mothership Money Heist series could return in some form in the future, too.
Filming Won’t Start on Berlin Season 2 in 2024
Sadly, it’s not all good news today. While we do have confirmation the show is coming back – it won’t be back for quite some time. Nestled away in Netflix’s press release for the return included that production on the new season will not be underway until at least 2025. No reason was given, but it could be down to other commitments with the other cast throughout 2024.
Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato are also currently hard at work on their next project for Netflix called El Refugio Atómico (or The Fallout Shelter in English), which is currently in production.
With this news, then, don’t expect Berlin season 2 to hit your screens until at least mid-to-late 2025 or possibly even 2026.
