The newly released trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water offers a more detailed glimpse at our long, long, long awaited return to the world of Pandora. Released courtesy of 20th Century Studios, Avatar: The Way of Water promises to be another event blockbuster from director James Cameron, and will once again be led by Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri. Check out the new trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water below.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family, the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
Avatar: The Way of Water will introduce audiences to Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri’s (Zoe Saldaña) new family, which will include several native Na’vi children, Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), and Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss), as well as the human child Miles Socorro, also known as Spider. Played by The Night Sitter star Jack Champion, Spider is taken into the brood of Avatar heroes Jake and Neytiri after being born at the now-abandoned military base on Pandora. Too young to be returned to Earth, Jake decides to take the child in as one of their own.
Avatar: The Way of Water Will Have an Epic Runtime
According to recent reports, Avatar: The Way of Water will have an epic runtime to go along with its breathtaking imagery and explosive set pieces. It has been revealed that the highly anticipated sequel will have been worth the wait where the runtime is concerned, with Avatar: The Way of Water reportedly clocking in at a bladder-aching 190 minutes. That’s just over 3 hours. Which would make Avatar: The Way of Water James Cameron’s second-longest movie after the record-breaking Titanic.
The sequel will also find Cameron returning to 3D, with the filmmaker believing that it is far more than just a fad. “3D appears to most people to sort of be ‘over.’ But it’s really not over,” he said. “It’s just been accepted. It’s just now a part of your choices when you go to the theater to see a big blockbuster movie … I liken it to color. When color films first came out, it was a big deal. People would go to see movies because they were in color. I think around the time of ‘Avatar,’ people used to go to see movies because they were in 3D … I think it had an impact on how films were presented that’s now just sort of accepted and part of the zeitgeist and how it’s done.”
Directed by James Cameron and produced by 20th Century Studios, Avatar: The Way of Water stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, Matt Gerald, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, Vin Diesel, and CJ Jones.
Avatar: The Way of Water is due for release on December 16, 2022, with further sequels due to land on December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028.
