If you’re more of an audiophile and are not really happy with what today’s smartphones offer, this one may interest you. The Moondrop MIAD01 is an audio-centric smartphone that was announced in China.
The Moondrop MIAD01 is an audio-centric smartphone
Before we get down to other details, let’s focus on the audio, as that’s this phone’s main selling point. There are dual headphone jack included here, with a 4.4mm balanced and a 3.5mm single-ended output.
The balanced audio jack has 4Vrms output, while the 3.5mm one has 2Vrms output. The audio on this phone is powered by a quad-channel dual Cirrus Logic MasterHIFI DACs. The measured dynamic range is 132dB, and a SINAD of 118dB.
Needless to say, this is great. It’s like having a really good portable DAC/amp, let alone all that in a smartphone. We’re still not sure what Cirrus Logic DACs exactly are used here, but GSM Arena guessed it’s the CS43198.
The phone includes a 6-layer gold sinking and an independent LDO power supply
Continuing along the audio route, the audio circuit here features a 6-layer gold-sinking and an independent LDO power supply. This phone also features a 100-level hardware-level DAC volume control. On top of that, the Moondrop Audio Center app with DSP functionality is included.
The phone itself also has a rather interesting and unique design. It is thicker in the top portion and has two cameras included on the back. Moondrop also combined a light gray color with dark gray and orange tones here.
The Moondrop MIAD01 is fueled by the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC. Moondrop also included 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM here, along with 256GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage. That storage is expandable for an additional 2TB.
A 64-megapixel main camera is included, and a 5,000mAh battery too
A 64-megapixel main camera sits on the back. We still don’t have any information regarding the secondary shooter. A single 32-megapixel snapper is included on the front, though.
A 5,000mAh battery is also included here, and the phone supports 33W charging. A 6.7-inch fullHD display is included on the front, and it’s an OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also offers high-frequency PWM dimming (1,920Hz).
Android comes pre-installed here, and Moondrop says it’s pure stock Android. The phone is 9.15mm thick at its thinnest point, and it weighs 202 grams.
The phone will be available globally for $399
The Moondrop MIAD01 is priced at CNY2,499 ($345). It’s more affordable than expected, but that’s not surprising considering its non-audio-related internals. Thep hone is already available in China. It will be available globally too, for a price of $399. We’re just not sure when. It will be available through select ecommerce and retail stores.
