As carriers compete for a bigger chunk of the 5G pie, AT&T has announced a new prepaid 5G plan, known as Unlimited Max. This plan will set you back by just $45/month. However, it’s only available via Walmart.

Customers of Unlimited Max get unlimited 5G data, unlimited talk/text, HD streaming, and 10GB of data for mobile hotspot. Subscribers also get up to 100GB of cloud storage. As The Verge points out, AT&T’s cheapest unlimited 5G plan outside of this Walmart-exclusive plan costs $65/month.

By default, videos on the Unlimited Max plan stream in Stream Saver mode or 480p. But customers have the option to enable HD streaming by calling 611 or heading over to AT&T’s prepaid site.

The Unlimited Max plan could turn out to be a game-changer for AT&T, especially considering the competition. Standard unlimited 5G prepaid plans from Verizon, Metro by T-Mobile, Mint Mobile, and Cricket Wireless don’t have an option for HD streaming.

AT&T will also offer discounts on some of its other prepaid plans and smartphones through Walmart

Taking its partnership with Walmart further, AT&T will also offer additional discounts on other plans when they’re activated through Walmart. For example, the 15GB plan, which usually costs $40/month, will only cost $35/month at Walmart. Similar discounts are available for the 5GB plan as well.

AT&T further said that customers who qualify for its Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) could utilize up to $30 of their subsidy to pay for the carrier’s prepaid plans. Customers can also get prepaid phones with decent discounts via Walmart.

Available options include the Moto G Pure for as low as $19 (down from $69), the Samsung Galaxy A12 for $69 (down from $119), and others. These prices are eligible when customers activate any monthly AT&T prepaid plan at Walmart.

However, some discounts, such as the one on the iPhone SE and iPhone 11, will require customers to activate the aforementioned Unlimited Max plan through Walmart. AT&T is also offering three 5G smartphones at Walmart, although they aren’t discounted. These include the Motorola One 5G Ace, the Samsung Galaxy A13 5G, and the AT&T Radiant Max 5G.

We expect other prepaid carriers to respond to AT&T’s aggressive pricing tier with new plans of their own.
