Patrick Wilson is no stranger to comic book movies. The Insidious star impressed as Orm in Aquaman and as Nite Owl in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen (and also voiced the President in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), but it seems when it comes to his dream project in the genre, his tastes tend towards the indie side of the spectrum.

Speaking with ComicBook, Wilson was asked what would be his dream comic book adaptation to direct. His answer? B. Clay Moore and Steven Michael Griffin’s Hawaiian Dick:

“I’ve never said this, but I’ll throw it out there. You know what I’ve always wanted to do, and always been fascinated by, is Hawaiian Dick….I was approached about that movie to act in it a hundred years ago with Frank Coraci. I have no idea where the rights are to that movie, but I always loved that series….Hawaiian Dick. Look it up!”

Hawaiian Dick debuted on Image Comics in December 2002 and has since seen four miniseries, with the most recent wrapping up in April 2016. The story is set in an alternate 1950s Hawaii, and follows an exiled detective based in Honolulu, spending his time tangling with supernatural anomalies and bizarre mysteries.

It’d be a fun choice for a stylish live-action adaptation, and we can see why Wilson was tapped for the lead role. The comic had also been considered as a vehicle for Johnny Knoxville, with NBC beginning the development of a series back in 2014 that ultimately didn’t go anywhere.

That said, the source material has been dormant for seven years now, so perhaps a further continuation of the story could light the fires and get this back into production.
