The Lost Kingdom is at hand. Jason Momoa returns in director James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom this December, and DC has finally released the first, full trailer for the sequel. Directed once again by James Wan, DC fans have been waiting patiently for the first proper look at the Aquaman sequel, which could very well be the final time that audiences see Momoa as the underwater superhero. Check out the newly released trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom below:
“Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all,” the official synopsis for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom reads. “This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.”
Also reprising their roles from 2018’s Aquaman alongside Jason Momoa are Patrick Wilson (Curry’s brother and the former King Orm), Amber Heard (Aquaman’s love interest, Mera), Nicole Kidman (Aquaman’s mother, Atlanna), Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus) and Randall Park (Dr. Stephen Shin). But the biggest reveal of the long-awaited trailer lies within its description: The confirmation that Aquaman’s son will indeed appear in the sequel!
Aquaman 2 Will Introduce the Son of Aquaman
When the brief Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom teaser dropped on Sunday night, the description gave away a juicy little spoiler from the upcoming sequel: “Jason Momoa plays Arthur Curry/Aquaman, now balancing his duties as both the King of Atlantis and a new father.” So, as it turns out, the rumors about Arthur Curry Jr. have officially been confirmed.
All returning to the roles they originated, Jason Momoa plays Arthur Curry/Aquaman, now balancing his duties as both the King of Atlantis and a new father; Patrick Wilson is Orm, Aquaman’s half-brother and his nemesis, who must now step into a new role as his brother’s reluctant ally; Amber Heard is Mera, Atlantis’ Queen and mother of the heir to the throne; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Black Manta, committed more than ever to avenge his father’s death by destroying Aquaman, his family and Atlantis; and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, a fierce leader and mother with the heart of a warrior. Also reprising their roles are Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin.
James Wan returns as the director for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and he has a lot to live up to. The first Aquaman set a very high bar as it became one of only three DC movies to ever make over $1 billion at the worldwide box office — Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises being the other two.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opens in theaters on December 20, 2023, following several delays, and is expected to be the final outing in original vision for the DC universe before James Gunn and Peter Safran reboot the franchise with Superman: Legacy in 2025.
