Apple has announced the Powerbeats Pro 2, marking a significant upgrade from the previous generation of the popular wireless earbuds. The announcement, which came through a teaser and software reveals, highlighted several key features, including heart rate monitoring and a new design.

Powerbeats Pro 2 announced with heart rate monitoring

The Powerbeats Pro 2 will include a built-in heart rate sensor, a first for any Beats or Apple earbuds. This feature will allow users to track their heart rate during workouts, with the data seamlessly integrated into the Apple Health app. To utilize this functionality, both earbuds must be worn during exercise, ensuring accurate and continuous heart rate tracking.

According to MacRumors, the heart rate monitoring feature will likely only activate when a workout is initiated in a compatible fitness app. This targeted approach to fitness tracking ensures that users can focus on their exercise while their earbuds handle the data collection. This functionality could also connect to gym equipment, allowing for more comprehensive tracking during activities like running on a treadmill.

In addition to heart rate monitoring, the Powerbeats Pro 2 will support several advanced audio features. These include Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Spatial Audio, and Adaptive Audio. ANC will help users block unwanted ambient noise, while Spatial Audio will provide a more immersive listening experience. Adaptive Audio, on the other hand, will adjust sound levels based on the user’s environment, ensuring optimal audio quality in any setting.

Apple has also introduced a slimmer design for the Powerbeats Pro 2. The new earbuds feature adjustable ear hooks for a secure fit, making them more comfortable for extended use. The slimmer profile not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the earbuds but also improves their functionality by providing a more streamlined fit.

It will be available in four new color options: orange, purple, black, and beige. Each color variant will come with a matching charging case, which, while similar in shape to the first-generation case, will feature a new white Beats logo instead of the previously embossed one.

New touch controls replace physical buttons

Another notable change in the Powerbeats Pro 2 is the shift from physical buttons to touch sensors. The physical button on the Beats logo, present in the first-generation model, is replaced by a touch-sensitive surface. However, the earbuds will still have a physical button on the stem, providing users with tactile feedback for certain controls.

The shift to touch controls reflects broader industry trends. More devices now use touch-sensitive interfaces for their sleek design and easy use. Apple confirmed the features and design of the Powerbeats Pro 2. However, the company has not provided a release date. The earbuds are set to launch in 2025. Further details will likely come closer to the release.
