Apple’s latest smartwatch, the Watch Series 10 is here and there are loads of new details about the new details about the company’s latest wrist-worn wearable. In addition to the new watch, Apple also announced a new color for the Watch Ultra, Black Titanium, as well as the new iPhone 16 series that includes the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. All of these new devices were announced at Apple’s event on September 9.
The new Apple Watch Series 10 uses Aluminum for the watch case body just like last year, but also just like last year, you can pick up a version of the watch in Titanium if you want increased durability. The design hasn’t really changed but Apple is doing a series of new colors and finishes this year. So there is a bit of a refreshed look to the watch. Prices are also staying the same, so you don’t have to worry about paying more for this model than last year if you plan to upgrade.
Apple Watch Series 10 specs
Apple has changed the Watch Series 10 and yet left more than a few things the same. One of the bigger changes this year is the display. Apple is now using a bigger display on the Watch Series 10 compared to last year’s Watch Series 9. In fact, the company says it’s the biggest display ever on an Apple Watch.
The exact display size is 1220 sq mm for the 46mm model and 989 sq mm for the 42mm model. Apple also notes that the display is 30% larger than the displays on the Apple Watch Series 4 through Series 6. It’s also 9% larger than the displays on Apple Watch Series 7 through Series 9.
With a significantly larger display, users will get more active screen space to interact with notifications and their favorite apps and features. In addition to the larger display size, the Watch Series 10 is also the first Apple product to use a wide-angle OLED panel. What does this mean for the user? Specifically, it means that the watch display “optimizes each pixel to emit more light at wider angles.” The benefit of this is that the display is now up to 40% brighter than the Apple Watch Series 9 when viewed at an angle.
This is an important distinction because Apple isn’t saying the display is 40% brighter overall. But the increased brightness even when viewed at an angle will be huge for users.
In terms of dimensions, the Apple Watch Series 10 has a height of 46mm, a width of 39mm, and a depth of 9.7mm on the 46mm watch. The 42mm has a height of, unsurprisingly, 42mm, while the width measures 36mm and the depth is the same at 9.7mm. Additionally, the 46mm and 42mm Watch Series 10 will weigh 35.3 grams and 29.3 grams respectively. The weight is increased for the Titanium model at 41.7 grams and 34.4 grams.
Both models of the Apple Watch Series 10 are coming with Apple’s new S10 chip inside. This is powered by a 4-core Neural Engine that drives various features, such as on-device Siri, the Double Tap gesture, and Crash Detection and Fall Detection. The chip also helps with power efficiency to help extend battery life. Paired with this is 64GB of storage for apps and music. The new watch also features a plethora of sensors. Including an electrical heart sensor, a 3rd-gen optical heart sensor, a temperature sensor, a compass, an always-on altimeter, and a depth gauge among others.
When it comes to battery life, Apple says the watch can last for up to 18 hours. This is for normal use. You can extend this by putting the watch into Low Power mode. In doing so, the battery life gets a boost to reach up to 36 hours. Should you find your watch needs a little juice, it’ll charge up to 80% in just 30 minutes. If you don’t have that kind of time, don’t worry. You can still get 8 hours of normal use in 15 minutes. You can even toss it on the charger for 8 minutes just to get 8 hours of sleep tracking.
How much is the Apple Watch Series 10?
This will depend on which model and size you buy. That said, the prices aren’t changing this year for the new watch. The price will start at $399 for the 42mm GPS model in Aluminum. If you go for the 46mm GPS model, that price bumps up to $429. Moving on up, the GPS + Cellular 42mm model will retail for $499, and the GPS + Cellular 46mm model will retail for $529. If you go for the Titanium models, prices will start at $699 for the 42mm model or $749 for the 46mm model.
You also pay another $50 (for a total of $799) if you pick the stainless steel Milanese loop band as opposed to the rubber or textile options. One other thing to keep in mind is that Apple does offer trade-in promotions. So if you trade in your old watch, you could end up getting a credit toward the purchase of your new one.
Where can I buy the Apple Watch Series 10?
You’ll be able to buy the watch directly from Apple with pre-orders starting today. You will also be able to buy the watch from several retail partners, although it might take a bit before retail partners actually have them listed. As of right now, none seem to offer it. That will change, however, and you will soon be able to pick it up at Amazon, Best Buy, and other similar retailers.
You should also be able to buy the GPS + Cellular models at your wireless carrier. This should include Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T in the US. Additional carriers may be included.
What colors does the Apple Watch Series 10 come in?
The Apple Watch Series 10 will come in a variety of colors (or finishes as Apple calls them), but this too will depend on which model you get. All variations of the Aluminum model will come in three different colors. Silver, Rose Gold, and Jet Black. If you go for the Titanium model you’ll be able to choose from three colors as well. Natural, Gold, and Slate.
These are of course just the colors of the watch case itself. Colors for the bands will be separate and based on the band material type.
Are there new bands to pair with the Apple Watch Series 10?
Apple has released a series of new bands that you can pair with your new watch. Some of these are entirely new bands for the Apple Watch Series 10, while others are refreshed versions that were available for older models. Apple has also released new colors for some of the existing bands, such as the Nike Sport Loop and Nike Sport Band. Other new bands or new band colors include the Hermes Torsade Single Tour Band, the Hermes Twill Jump Attelage Band, and new colors of the Milanese Loop.
What features will the Apple Watch Series 10 have?
With the Apple Watch Series 10 fast approaching, you’re probably wondering what new features it will introduce. These will come on WatchOS 11 so they should include whatever was discussed during that announcement earlier in the Summer. But Apple is adding even more with the new hardware.
New watch faces
Apple is adding two new watch faces (that we know of) with the arrival of the Watch Series 10. The first is called Flux and its main feature is that it fills the screen with color second by second. The second new watch face that Apple mentions is called Reflections. Like its namesake, it was designed to perfectly compliment the reflective finishes of the Titanium Apple Watch Series 10. Apple says that the dial reacts “subtly” to the user’s movements. Basically, it shimmers as you turn your wrist like highly reflective metal would if the light was shining on it.
Faster charging
Faster charging is another neat change coming to the watches this year. Apple says you’ll be able to charge the watch up to 80% in just 30 minutes. So if all you have is half an hour before you have to jet out the door, don’t worry. That will be more than enough time to get you most of the battery life you’ll need. Assuming you can toss it back on the charger within 18 hours of course.
Even better is that if you have even less time, you can still juice it up quickly. 15 minutes gets you 8 hours of normal use, and 8 minutes gets you 8 hours of sleep tracking. So don’t feel pressure to stay up just to let the watch charge if you’re ready to head to bed. Just give yourself 10 minutes with the watch on the charger and then get some sleep.
Sleep Apnea detection and insights
The Apple Watch Series 10 will add a new capability to the already extensive list of detection features with Sleep Apnea insights. With this feature, the watch will be able to detect possible signs of Sleep Apnea for the user. Like the feature on Samsung’s Galaxy Watch smartwatches, this will not be a surefire way to tell if you have Sleep Apnea. Rather, it will alert you to the possible signs that you may have it, and then you would want to consult your doctor to learn more.
An accelerometer will monitor small movements in the wrist that are interrupting normal breathing patterns. These abnormalities are tracked by a new metric that Apple calls Breathing Disturbances. Users can also look at the Health app to see those disturbances and determine if they should talk to their doctor.
Depth and temperature sensing for water activities
The Apple Watch was already a good accessory for water-loving folk, and now it’s even better thanks to the included depth and temperature sensors for water activities. The new depth gauge is capable of measuring down to meters so if you like diving or snorkeling, this is perfect for you.
To accompany this, Apple also added a new temperature sensor so you can tell how cold or warm the water is.
The new Tides app
Those who enjoy water activities will also want to make use of the new Tides app. This can display a full seven days of forecasted tidal details. You can also check information from new Tides complications and use an integrated new map to see nearby beaches with relevant details.
Audio playback through the speakers
If you’ve ever wanted to play audio through the built-in speakers, now you can. Apple Watch Series 10 unlocks the full potential of the speakers. You can use this to stream music from apps like Apple Music too. What’s more, you can use this to listen to podcasts through Apple Podcasts and audiobooks through Apple Books.
