Apple has huge plans for its upcoming smartphones. In 2024 alone, Apple plans to ship 90 million iPhone 16 series devices. This report comes from Bloomberg, by the way.

Apple has huge plans for the iPhone 16 series, it plans to ship 90 million units this year

Considering that the phones are expected to arrive in September, those are huge goals. That means that Apple wants to ship 90 million units in a little over three months.

Bloomberg says: “Apple Inc. aims to ship at least 90 million iPhone 16 devices in the latter half of this year, counting on AI services to fuel demand for its new lineup after a rocky 2023”.

The source also added: “The company told suppliers and partners that it’s targeting about 10% growth in shipments of new iPhones compared with their predecessors, a person familiar with the matter said”.

The company shipped around 81 million iPhone 15 smartphones in H2 2023

As a reminder, Apple shipped around 81 million iPhone 15 series devices in the second half of 2023. So, the 90 million goal sure is doable. If Apple manages to get that 10% boost it’s expecting, it will hit that 90 million sales target.

Apple announced the biggest iOS update to date not long ago, iOS 18. Apple Intelligence is a part of that, Apple’s take on AI. The company is counting on people being quite interested in it, it seems.

On top of that, iOS 18 also brought some other neat updates, as it added plenty of customization too, something that many iOS users have been wanting for years. Quite a few Android features made the cut, actually.

All four iPhone 16 handsets will ship with iOS 18

All four iPhone 16 models will ship with iOS 18, of course. It’s worth noting that only iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will get Apple Intelligence, vanilla models will not.

Bloomberg also notes that even though iPhones didn’t sell all that well in the beginning of this year, the sales picked up since April. Apple could have a good start in China too with the iPhone 16 series, we’ll see.
