Apple has just announced a new HomePod, which is actually rather surprising. Seeing as the original HomePod was discontinued and discounted in 2021, and was never mentioned again. But it is definitely good to see it get announced today, as many users were looking for a larger HomePod again.
The HomePod is Apple’s own take on the smart speaker, so of course it uses Siri as the digital assistant and can play Apple Music as well as Apple Podcasts.
The new HomePod has greatly improved audio quality, with an identical design. Which isn’t a bad thing, it’s definitely the best looking smart speaker on the market today. Inside the HomePod is the S7 chip, which combines software and system-sensing technology to offer even more advanced computational audio that can maximize the full potential of HomePod. It also has a 20mm built-in bass-EQ mic, along with a custom-engineered high-excursion woofer, and a powerful motor that drives the diaphragm.
Made from 100% recycled mesh fabric
While the HomePod looks identical to the original from the outside, it is actually a refined design. At least according to Apple. It uses transparent mesh fabric, which allows the speaker to push out sound without the design affecting the sound experience. It also has the backlit touch surface that illuminates from edge to edge, so it looks amazing in any space you put it in.
HomePod comes in white and midnight which is a new color. And it is made with 100% recycled mesh fabric, with a color-matched woven power cable.
Finally, HomePod does come with Matter support. So it’ll work more seamlessly with your smart home products for voice control with HomeKit and Siri.
HomePod (2nd Generation) is available in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, the UK, the US, and 11 other countries and regions starting today. And available more widely on February 3. It is also going to cost you $299. That’s $50 less than the original HomePod was at launch.
