Google has decided to transform the Android logo into a 3D one, and also change some other things, as part of a new brand identity change. This is the first change Google made since 2019, when it announced a new brand identity for Android.

Google is changing the Android logo from a 2D to a 3D, as part of brand identity change

What exactly is changing? Well, the Android logo is becoming a 3D one. So, the head is basically switching from a 2D model to a 3D one. In addition to that, a new wordmark has also been presented.

The new wordmark will use the capital ‘A’ at the beginning of the word ‘Android’. That’s a change from what Google did before, as Google used a lowercase ‘a’. The ‘n’ and ‘r’ letters are also perfectly rounded now.

This is not the first time we’re seeing this 3D Android head, actually. It first started popping up during CES 2023, though it’s the first time we’re seeing the new wordmark.

The new wordmark and head were spotted side-by-side in an ad for Android, which talked about first-party apps on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Well, now Google officially confirmed the change.

9to5Google says that Google directly confirmed “new brand identity”, while promising to share more information in the future. The company is obviously planning to officially announce all this, either before or during the Pixel 8 event.

Google will share more info “in the coming months”

This is what Google said exactly: “We’re showcasing some elements of our new brand identity on various surfaces, including our CES booth from earlier this year and other campaign materials like digital & banner ads. We’ll have more to share in the coming months”.

Considering that the company said that more info is coming “in the coming months”, it’s possible we’ll have to wait until the Pixel 8 event. It remains to be seen. That event will almost certainly happen in October.
