As many of you know by now, the DOJ won a trial against Google. That news was shared yesterday, as Google has been found guilty of antitrust practices in both search and ads businesses. Google already issued its statement regarding the antitrust trial verdict, and Android Headlines CEO wanted to weigh in as well.

He felt compelled to share his statement too, as Google’s practices have affected Android Headlines too, quite a bit. You can read his statement in its entirety below.

“As a long-time participant in the digital ecosystem and search industry, I feel it’s important to share my perspective on the recent antitrust ruling against Google. While we once admired Google’s innovative spirit, particularly during the early days of Android, their dominance in search has created significant challenges for small and medium-sized businesses.

Google’s frequent algorithm changes and core updates have made it increasingly difficult for smaller companies to compete with large corporations in search results. This constant shifting of goalposts has turned SEO into a resource-intensive game, where only those with substantial means can truly compete. As a result, many small businesses find themselves at a severe disadvantage, unable to afford the teams of experts needed to keep pace with these changes.

The consequences of this imbalance are far-reaching and very real. Businesses may fail, jobs may be lost, and families may face financial hardship – all because of changes in search algorithms that favor larger, more resourced entities. This power dynamic has effectively transformed the internet into what some might call a “Googlenet,” where one company wields enormous influence over online visibility and, by extension, business success.

We believe this ruling is a crucial step toward creating a more equitable digital landscape. It’s imperative that regulations be implemented to prevent any single entity from having such disproportionate control over the online ecosystem. The goal should be to foster fair competition and ensure that businesses of all sizes have a reasonable opportunity to be discovered online.

While we acknowledge that Google has contributed significantly to the development of the Internet, we hope this decision will lead to positive changes in the search industry. These changes should benefit not only businesses but also consumers, by promoting diversity in search results and encouraging innovation across the digital space.

As we move forward, it’s our hope that this ruling will spark a broader conversation about the balance of power in the digital age and lead to a more open, fair, and competitive online environment for all.”
