Taking screenshots has been a staple for smartphones for some time. It’s a useful tool, but just like any function on your phone, it can be bad if malicious apps gain access to it. A screenshot of your screen could be catastrophic if it lands in the wrong hands. This is why Android 14 has screenshot detection.

Along with you, apps also have the ability to take screenshots. Normally, you’ll want to give them permission to do so. However, not all apps will ask for permission before taking screenshots, and this is where a big issue comes in. There are apps out there that can take secret screenshots. Instead of saving them to your gallery, they could just be sent off to the company.

Since you view all types of information sensitive information on your phone, there’s always the chance that the app could screenshot some sensitive information like phone numbers, passwords, banking information, etc.

Android 14 has screenshot detection

This feature comes in handy for swatting away apps like those. In Android 14, users have screenshot detection. When a screenshot is taken on your phone, you’ll see a little message at the bottom of the screen telling you that one was taken. This is handy because, if you’re using an app, and you randomly see that message without taking a screenshot, then you know that it’s time to press uninstall.

This tool also helps apps detect when you’ve taken a screenshot. There are apps like banking apps and others that contain sensitive information. This feature lets the apps block screenshots if they’re displaying information that shouldn’t be recorded. This is something that Snapchat does to let you know when your friend violated online etiquette and snapshots your Snapchat.

Well, other apps will have the ability to detect if you take a screenshot. As with most other features, it’s up to the app developers to implement the feature. According to the report, not too many apps have adopted this feature. Hopefully, that changes as time goes on.
