Android 14 may actually allow you to pin the taskbar on the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. As most of you know, Google showed off Android 14’s new taskbar during Google I/O 2023. That taskbar is supposed to be in use with larger screen devices, such as book-style foldables and tablets.

A short swipe up from the vertical line at the bottom activates the new taskbar. It’s hidden by default. The thing is, Google may allow you to pin it to the home screen, as was the case in Android 12L.
This taskbar is not new, but the way it works is. In Android 12L, the taskbar was pinned to the bottom of the display. You could hide it by long-pressing on it, but Google decided to change things up.
This new taskbar is called a “transient” taskbar, and it was introduced in Android 13 QPR2 Beta 1, though it wasn’t properly available until Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2. In any case, a code for the persistent taskbar is still there, it seems.
That option is not accessible in a current beta, but that will likely change moving forward
It’s there, but Google doesn’t allow you to utilize that option. That could change in Android 14, though, once the stable build comes knocking. It would certainly be a nice option to have.
That code was spotted in Android 14 Beta 3. There is a new launcher flag there labeled ‘ENABLE_TASKBAR_PINNING’ which is kind of self-explanatory. We already know how this is supposed to work.
A toggle is accessible via a long press on an empty spot on the taskbar. Once you do that, a pop-up will appear with two options. The first one is “always show taskbar”, while the second one is “change navigation mode”.
