Android 13 QPR1 started rolling out to Beta 3.1 Pixel users. Not long after that, a bug was spotted, and you may want to avoid installing this update because of it. It turns out that the Android 13 QPR1 update may break your Pixel’s multitasking.

Android 13 QPR1 update may break your Pixel’s multitasking, beware

This information comes from Adam Conway from XDA Developers. It happened to him, as he detailed on Twitter. This basically rendered his Pixel 7 Pro useless. He showed the issue in a short video too.

Did he find a solution? Well, no, not yet. He tried switching off the navigation buttons, but the home swipe gesture doesn’t seem to be working. That’s not all, though, he tried a bunch of things to amend the issue.

Restarting did not help, nor did changing the default home launcher. Clearing the Pixel Launcher data and cache did nothing, nor did changing back to gesture navigation. He also tried booting into safe mode, and flashing the update again via adb. None of that helped, but the problem persists.

Granted, this is a beta build of the software, but still, things like this should not happen. This is a major problem as it does render the phone practically useless. So, if you were planning to update to Android 13 QPR1, you may want to hold that thought.

The latest Pixel Feature Drop is now affected by this bug, it seems

Once again, just to be clear, this refers to the beta build only. The latest Pixel Feature Drop that launched at the same time is perfectly fine to use. Well, at least thus far, as we didn’t spot any device-breaking bugs.

Google added quite a few features via that Pixel Feature Drop, so if you haven’t updated yet, you may want to do it soon. The update started rolling out to Pixel phones, and if it’s not yet available on your device, it will be really soon.
