While there are some exciting additions with Android 13 DP2, Google is also bringing efficiency-related improvements with the new release. The ability to change display and font size is crucial for accessibility. With Android 13 DP2, the two options will be merged within a new page called ‘Display size and text.’
The folks at 9to5Google caught the feature on Android 13 DP2, showing the new page within Settings – Display. Both display and text sliders appear on top of each other, with a real-time preview of the changes shown on the top half of the screen. There are multiple preview options, including a standard view of the app drawer or a text message window.
The new ‘Display size and text’ page also includes toggles for bold text and high contrast text. These toggles exist within Settings – Accessibility on Android 12, so it’s a pretty big shift with the latest iteration of Android.
Android 13 will become commercially available by fall this year
Android 13 could bring a host of new changes, as we’ll discover in the coming weeks and months. Google could have the stable version of Android 13 available by least June or July this year. Meanwhile, the first Android 13 betas should be available starting next month.
Expectedly, there’s plenty in store for Pixel owners with Android 13. The latest developer preview also brings Google Assistant voice typing to more Pixel devices, including the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 5a.
Assistant voice typing is available exclusively on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, leading many to believe that the feature could be hardware-driven. But owners of older Pixel phones can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that the new voice typing experience will also make it to their phones. 9to5Google found that the feature was markedly slow on devices like the Pixel 5a due to obvious hardware limitations.
We should have a better understanding of what Android 13 DP2 has to offer over the next few weeks. But Android 13 won’t be commercially available until fall this year, possibly with the Pixel 6 successor.
