A new trailer for director Michael Bay’s upcoming action thriller, Ambulance, was released during this weekend’s Super Bowl and teased the high stakes and explosions to come. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza González, Ambulance is due for release in April and follows a pair of bank robbers who steal an ambulance while running for their lives. The latest trailer comes courtesy of Universal Pictures.

What begins as a beautiful morning in Los Angeles soon turns into a high stake, high-stress situation, as Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II dodge all manner of explosions, bullets and car crashes the likes of which that director Michael Bay can deliver with aplomb. Ambulance is being described as a “breakneck thriller,” as director-producer Michael Bay tells this story of a decorated veteran Will Sharp (Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Candyman, The Matrix Resurrections), who is desperate for money to cover his wife’s medical bills. In search of help, he turns to the one person he knows he shouldn’t, his adoptive brother Danny (Oscar® nominee Jake Gyllenhaal, Zodiac, Spider-Man: Far From Home). A charismatic career criminal, Danny instead offers him a score: the biggest bank heist in Los Angeles history: $32 million. With his wife’s survival on the line, Will can’t say no.

But when their getaway goes spectacularly wrong, the desperate brothers hijack an ambulance with a wounded cop clinging to life and ace EMT Cam Thompson (Eiza González, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Baby Driver) onboard. In a high-speed pursuit that never stops, Will and Danny must evade a massive, city-wide law enforcement response, keep their hostages alive, and somehow try not to kill each other, all while executing the most insane escape L.A. has ever seen.

Ambulance Promises to be an Adrenaline-Fueled Action Thriller

A remake of a 2005 Danish movie of the same name, Ambulance promises to be an adrenaline-fuelled, action-packed thriller. Set over just one life-changing day in L.A., a day that will change three people’s lives forever, the project looks like the perfect mix of explosions and drama for Michael Bay, who was last behind the camera on Netflix’s 2019 outing 6 Underground.

Alongside the deafening levels of action, Ambulance will be anchored by what is sure to be a pair of hugely powerful performances from two of the greatest actors working today; Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Gyllenhaal has been proving his talent for years now, with the actor often choosing diverse, unconventional roles for a leading man of his type, including the likes of Prisoners, Nightcrawler, Southpaw, and Nocturnal Animals. Meanwhile, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is hot property right now thanks to roles in such major releases as Candyman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and The Matrix Resurrections.

Ambulance is being produced by Michael Bay, p.g.a., Bradley J. Fischer, p.g.a. (Zodiac, Shutter Island) for New Republic Pictures, James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, 2022’s Scream) and William Sherak (Ready or Not, 2022’s Scream) for Project X, and Oscar® nominee Ian Bryce (Transformers franchise, Saving Private Ryan). The movie is directed by Michael Bay from a screenplay by Chris Fedak (Prodigal Son, Chuck), and is scheduled to be theatrically released by Universal Pictures on April 8, 2022.
