The Nintendo Switch 2 design has allegedly leaked via a series of CAD renders, and if the design is accurate then Nintendo fans shouldn’t be expecting a whole lot of changes from the design of the company’s upcoming console.

Based on the renders, Nintendo isn’t deviating from the style of the Switch. That doesn’t mean there are no changes. Based on the renders, the new Nintendo Switch 2 will have a larger display and use a similar rail system for the Joy-Con controllers. One minor difference with the Joy-Cons is that they’re said to include a new magnetic component to the rail system to help secure the Joy-Con controllers when connected to the console. And this leak seems to support that rumor.

The Joy-Con controllers also appear to have a similar set of buttons on the back for detaching from the main unit. They have been changed up a bit though. On the current Switch and Switch OLED, the buttons for detaching the Joy-Con controllers are quite small. These are larger on the Nintendo Switch 2. They’ve also been repositioned. Now, the flat surface of the button that you press inward to detach the controller faces the main unit. The current buttons face outward, away from the controllers.

Leaked Nintendo Switch 2 design renders show off a bigger display

Rumors of the Nintendo Switch 2 having a bigger display have popped up before. In fact previous rumors pegged the Nintendo Switch 2 as coming with an 8-inch screen. The leaked renders show a comparison of the Nintendo Switch 2 with the current Nintendo Switch, and there’s a clear difference in the display size.

It also looks like the Switch 2 will come with the wide kickstand that debuted on the Switch OLED. There are a few other noteworthy changes based on the CAD renders. For instance, there’s a USB-C port on the top now that sits between the 3.5mm audio port and the port for the game carts. There’s also still a USB-C port on the bottom that’s used when docking the system. Overall, the design is mostly the same, even with these changes.

Leaked specs indicate 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and more

Leaked CAD renders give us a good look at the Nintendo Switch 2’s possible design. In addition to these though, some of the specs have leaked as well. Both the images and specs were shared by a user named u/MisterSheeple on Reddit (via Wccftech). While these can’t be confirmed they do match what has been rumored already. This includes the 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage manufactured by Kaixia, with read/write speeds of 2100 MB/s.

The specs also mention the CPU and GPU combo, listed as model GMLX30-R-A1. A few other things are listed too including dual cooling fans and a copper gaming heat sink. Now these details and the design likely won’t be confirmed for quite some time. Nintendo isn’t expected to launch the Switch 2 until at least Spring 2025. Nintendo could reveal the Switch 2 before then, but it’s unclear when exactly that will happen. In terms of performance, it’s been rumored to rival the Steam Deck.
