Samsung is reportedly planning to equip the entire Galaxy S24 lineup with upgraded displays. Reputed industry insider Ice Universe recently claimed that all three models will get brighter screens. The Plus model will also see a resolution upgrade.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra has been in the news lately for various reasons. Samsung is switching from a curved display to a flat one for its Ultra flagship next year, and not everyone likes this idea. But the main talking point has been the display bezels. The company’s quest for symmetric bezels will seemingly end up thickening those black borders around the display. The phone’s front design doesn’t look premium due to the wide bezels.
But on the bright side (pun unintended), Samsung is making the display a lot brighter. The Galaxy S24 Ultra will reportedly have a peak brightness of 2,500 nits. That’s 750 nits brighter than the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s peak brightness. It turns out the vanilla Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will also get the same brightness boost. The same source has confirmed that these two models will also boast brightness levels of up to 2,500 nits.
That isn’t all, though. The tipster also added that the Galaxy S24+ will feature a WQHD+ resolution display (1440 x 3120 pixels). The Galaxy S23+ has an FHD+ screen (1080 x 2340 pixels), so it’s another big upgrade. Samsung last used a WQHD+ display on its “Plus” flagship in 2020 (Galaxy S20+). All subsequent models have since featured an FHD+ display, with the higher resolution screen reserved for the Ultra model.
Unfortunately, the vanilla Galaxy S24 appears to be stuck with an FHD+ screen. The Galaxy S20 in 2020 had a WQHD+ display, but the subsequent models have settled for a lower resolution panel. The difference may not be as notable on its 6.1-inch screen as on the Plus model’s 6.6-inch panel, but it’s nice to have options. After all, we are talking about the best Android phones from the world’s largest smartphone company here.
The Galaxy S24+ looks better than the Ultra model
Ice Universe also shared a render of the Galaxy S24+, which they created using the available data about the phone’s dimensions, screen size, and aspect ratio. Their calculation shows that the device will have a total bezel width of 2.5mm (display border and frame), almost a millimeter lower than Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 3.42mm bezels.
Slimmer symmetric bezels combined with rounded corners mean the Plus model has a more aesthetically pleasing front design than the Ultra. We have yet to see the smallest Galaxy S24 in renders. The next-gen Samsung flagships will debut in early 2024. You can expect a lot more leaks and rumors about the phones ahead of their launch.
