As well as the trailer, you can also read the official synopsis for All of Us Strangers below:

“One night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, Adam (Andrew Scott) has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbor Harry (Paul Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up, and the childhood home where his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell), appear to be living, just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.”

From director Andrew Haigh, and loosely based on the 1987 novel Strangers by Taichi Yamada, All of Us Strangers features a hugely talented ensemble cast, with Andrew Scott (Sherlock, Fleabag) starring as Adam and Paul Mescal (Normal People, Aftersun) starring as Harry alongside Jamie Bell (Snowpiercer, Skin) as Adam’s father and Claire Foy (The Crown, First Man) as Adam’s mother.

All of Us Strangers premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival back in August and has been met with critical acclaim from those lucky enough to have already seen the intimate, powerful tale of love, grief, and heartache. All of Us Strangers currently sits at a promising 94% on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes and has been hailed a “masterpiece” by several critics.

Maureen Lee Lenker of Entertainment Weekly awarded All of Us Strangers a rating of A- and says:

“Grief is a funny animal; it tangles itself in our organs and sinews, permanently altering how we love, how we see ourselves, and how we make sense of our identity. That’s what Haigh is unraveling here, with a bittersweet emphasis on the power of love and its ability to transcend even death itself. All of Us Strangers will break your heart — but it just might mend it too.”

TheWrap’s Tomris Laffly meanwhile heaped praise on this heartbreaking ghost story, and calls it one of the best of the year.

“A sublime masterpiece. A rumination on grief and love, Haigh’s poignant and understated ghost story is one of the best films of the year.”

Lastly, David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter’s bottom line simply reads “Prepare to be wrecked.”

“While it unfolds in a hazy dream state rooted in Adam’s loneliness and the emotional suspension that has blocked him from moving forward, it’s by no means a downer. It’s a thing of beauty, heartfelt and unforgettable.”

All of Us Strangers is scheduled to be released by Searchlight Pictures in the United States on 22 December 2023 and in the United Kingdom on 26 January 2024.
