We’ve seen a lot of fitness-oriented gadgets being announced in 2021. One such device is the Fitbit Charge 5, a device we’ve decided to give out one of our awards to. The Fitbit Charge 5 is the best fitness tracker of 2021, in our opinion. Do note that this category was only able to contain fitness trackers, not fitness devices in general. We have a separate category for smartwatches.
Truth be said, the Fitbit Charge 5 is not the cheapest fitness tracker in the market, not at all, but it is one of the most compelling ones. It usually costs $179.95, but it’s now discounted by almost 30-percent, at the time of writing this article. That may be another reason for you to try it out. It looks simple, as a fitness tracker should look like, it stays out of the way. At the same time, it has all the features you may want out of such a device.
The design is minimal, and that’s a good thing
Fitness trackers are different from smartwatches in a number of ways. People usually want fitness trackers to remain undescriptive, most of them, anyway. They are a tool to wear for fitness purposes, while smartwatches are there to show off, in a way. The Fitbit Charge 5 looks similar to other fitness trackers in the market, it has that recognizable tall display, and that panel is touch-sensitive.
Its strap is made out of silicone, which is the case for most fitness trackers. For some, you can exchange that band with some other materials, and the one on the Fitbit Charge 5 is also user-replaceable. You can mix and match, if you want. The device is extremely comfortable to wear, which is an important factor as well. Another thing to note is that you’ll get both small and large straps in the box.
Fitness & health features
First and foremost, this fitness tracker does have a GPS built in. Because of that, you can easily leave your phone at home when you’re going for a run, or something of the sort. 24/7 heart rate tracking is also a part of the package. The Active Zone Minutes feature is also included here, and it will use your heart rate in order to guide you toward your desired intensity level of workouts.
The Charge 5 will also help you decide whether it’s time to work out, or take a day off. It will do this thanks to the Daily Readiness Score feature. The SmartTrack feature can automatically recognize and record your workouts, in case you forget to start one manually. Speaking of workouts, there are 20 exercise modes included in the Charge 5. You can set personal goals for runs, rides, and much more.
The Fitbit Charge 5 can track your activity throughout the day. It can track your steps, the distance you’ve crossed, Active Zone Minutes, and calories that you’ve burned. It will let you know what your VO2 max status is, and the device is swimproof. It has water resistance up to 50 meters, so you can freely swim with it, regardless of whether you’re doing it in a pool, or at the beach.
Sleep tracking, notifications & compelling battery life
Yes, the Fitbit Charge 5 can track your sleep cycles. The device will share with you your Sleep Score and Sleep Stages information. It’ll help you better understand your sleep habits, and improve your sleep over time. Menstrual Cycle Tracking is also a part of the picture here, and the same goes for Skin Temperature Tracking.
The Charge 5 can notify you when you receive a notification on your phone. It can pull your notifications for calls, texts, calendar events, and various apps. You can even send quick replies from your wrist through this device. The battery life is also quite good. The Charge 5 provides up to 7 days of battery life, depending on your usage.
