The stable version of Android 12L has finally launched, and things seem to be going swimmingly. However, some users are spotting a weird issue in the software. According to Android Police, there’s a bug with the status bar in Android 12L.
Android 12 has had its fair share of issues and bugs in the software that dampen the experience just a bit. With Google working on Android 12L, the company decided to add in stability fixes to the software while formatting it for larger displays. Because of this, people using Android 12L are having a more stable experience.
There’s a weird issue with the status bar in Android 12L
However, it’s not 100% stable according to reports. In the final release of Android 12L, some users are finding an issue with the status bar. When using certain apps, the status bar would draw itself over the top of the app. The status bar would extend down past the top of the app you’re using instead of sitting at the top.
According to Reddit users who spotted this issue, this would happen when you summon the keyboard in certain apps. The list of apps includes, but is not limited to, Spotify, Snapchat, Flamingo, Talon, and Google News.
As conjectured by the folks at Android Police, this issue happens with devices with notches and punch-holes. While using a Pixel 4 XL, there was no issue, but the other eligible Pixel device (ones with punch-holes and notches) were affected. This could mean that the problem has to do with how the system is compensating for notches and punch-holes.
In the screenshots, it looks like the software is drawing the status bar to accommodate for a rather large notch. This is still a pretty new issue, so Google will, hopefully, deliver a fix to it soon. Right now, Android 12L is still new, but the company has been working on the software for months, so it’s weird seeing bugs even now.
However, no software is immune to bugs, and Android 12L is in a much better place than Android 12 proper.
