Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second new game coming in the remake trilogy and it’s due out this month, but a new rumor suggests fans might get to play the game via a demo ahead of the launch.
Over the past year, Square Enix has been drip-feeding information to fans via trailers and livestream events. This usually ended up being in one of Sony’s State of Play streams. So people expected to see and hear more about the game in the State of Play that went live on January 31. The stream came and went without any new footage or discussion of the game though. Save for one little piece of information right before Sony signed off. State of Play will be returning on February 6, Sony said, with the entire stream focusing on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
So it’s official. Fans will get to see an extended look at the game on February 6. Now, a rumor from PlayStation Game Size on X claims that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be getting a demo, and that it will be available after the stream. If the rumor is true, then players will be able to check out the game a few weeks before its official release. The game comes out on PlayStation 5 on February 29. This wouldn’t be the first time Square Enix dropped demos for the more recent mainline Final Fantasy titles. Multiple demos were dropped for Final Fantasy XV. Final Fantasy XVI received a demo as well, with players gaining access to the game about two weeks before the full launch in 2023.
This makes it extremely likely that a Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo is on the way.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo progress will carry over
Getting early access to the game through a demo is all well and good, but Square Enix is apparently going to do fans one better. It’ll let you carry over progress from the demo to the full game. This is according to the same rumor, although again not too surprising if the demo is actually happening.
Players were able to carry over progress from the Final Fantasy XVI demo to the main game. With the demo including the game’s prologue. If the same happens with a Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo, it’ll mean players can get a jump start on their first playthrough. Without having to play through the same content again.
The demo will also reportedly include a ‘Kupo Charm Survival Set’ as a reward for completion. It’s not clear what this set would include. But, chances are it may include equipment for your characters. As well as materia that can be affixed to your gear. Similar in-game items were given out as rewards for people who pre-ordered Final Fantasy VII Remake when it launched. So this seems like a safe bet.
